Audi to launch A8 hybrid next year

Acclaimed automaker Audi has announced that it would roll out an environmentally friendly hybrid version of its A8 limousine next year.
The large luxury saloon will combine a 2.0-litre 4-cylinder petrol engine with an electric motor, which will provide the option of zero emission driving. On gas, the car will offer fuel consumption of more than 44mpg. The engine will still produce 241bhp of power and 354lb-ft of torque.
The lithium-ion battery will be placed in a crash-proof area of the boot. It will weigh 36.7kg and offer up to 40kW of power and 1.3kWh of nominal energy.
The upcoming hybrid will undercut the 3.0-litre diesel which currently holds the accolade of being the most efficient at 42.9mpg and a 174g/km rating. Thus, the A8 hybrid will be the most efficient model in the A8 series.
The A8 hybrid will have a top speed of 146mph, with an ability to sprint from zero to 62mph in 7.7 seconds.
Visually the A8 hybrid will not be much different from the standard car. It will feature 18-inch or 19-inch alloys, small hybrid badges and a special Arctic silver paintjob.
